hi,

If you have read my previous post then you will know that i have a Gecko called Olympus. I really need to know a bit about them so i went onto the internet and started looking at some websites. It started off as, for example, what food do Geckos eat? so they eat mealworms, mice ,crickets ect. Then do they like being handled? What habitat are they best suited for and so on. from this i found a vast amount of website had near enough everything you need to know about Geckos. I got quite interested about the Geckos tail, i found out it uses it as a defense mechanism, dropping off and wriggling around as a distraction so it can get away. The Gecko also uses it’s tail to store fat which also a downside as if its tail drops off it will lose its fat for the winter (and those tough times). But there have been cases where when the tail partially falls off and it grows another,so it has two, there are sighting of 3 tailed Geckos.

please leave a comment.

Olympus the Gecko

September 29, 2008

Hi,

recently me and my stepdad purchased a Gecko. until now i have known nothing on Gecko’s. all i knew was that they were small Reptiles that were kept as pets.(Obviously there are wild Geckos as well) we got him from a small pet shop in Gloucester, we then set off to find a suitable cage. we had to get the equiptment for him to be comfortable in his habitat. we set it all up and he seemed to be very happy. we put the heat mat underneath the tank (well a plastic one but a tank none the less) then moved him into it then he settled down. we fed it crickets which it dismembers as it is too big for him. His current home is next to my stepdads computer. the crickets are kept in a separete tank and make soothing noises. wouldn’t that drive you mad? oh well, im going to go now.
